S728: Hitler and the Rise of the Nazis, 1918-1933 (online via Zoom)

History

The rise of the Hitler's Nazi Party is a phenomenon of the twentieth century. Nearly 100 years on, the debate remains heated about how and why the Nazis seized control, bringing to power one of the most malign figures in history. This class charts this shocking story by examining the context within which Nazism grew. Examine Hitler's life in detail from his childhood to Nazi seizure of power; post-war settlement; rise of authoritarianism; weaknesses of the Weimar Republic. How was it that an obscure Austrian corporal captivated one of the most advanced and civilized countries on earth, taking them down a path of totalitarianism and murderous hatred? History lecture.
