D089: French Cinema Group

Other Language Opportunities

Vous aimez le cinéma français? Vous voulez pratiquer votre français? Over five fortnightly meetings we will watch and discuss different French films. This gives you the opportunity to practise speaking in French and discuss films of various genres in a relaxed atmosphere. There will be class and group or paired discussions in French. You will have the necessary skills if you have completed 'French 2 or 3', or equivalent.

Films to be watched in advance of the class, some of which are available free on Netflix or Amazon Prime, others will need to be purchased. Questions will be provided in advance of each class meeting to give time for preparation. The films are 'Intouchables' [2011, Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano] (currently available on Amazon Prime & Netflix), 'Deux jours une nuit' [2014, Luc Dardenne, Jean Pierre Dardenne] (to be rented/purchased ), ''La Rafle' [Roselyne Bosch 2010], (to be rented/purchased), 'Les Misérables' [2019, Ladj Li] (currently available on Netflix) and 'Bienvenue Chez les Ch'tis' [2008, Dany Boon] (to be rented/purchased ). (DVDs can be purchased second-hand via Amazon/Music Magpie etc. this will reduce the cost price significantly.) Films should be watched during the weeks beginning 3, 17 & 31 October and 14, 28 November (in your own time). Film discussion meetings will be held in the Centre on 10 & 24 October, 7 & 21 November and 5 December.
