Q701: Goya: A painter between pain and glory

Art Appreciation, 3Ls Lunchtime Talks, Other Languages, Language & Culture

Francisco de Goya (1746-1828), an exceptional witness to Spain's turbulent journey from enlightenment back to absolutism, was a complex and insightful artist. His paintings constitute a chronicle of his times as well as a study of the human condition, capturing emotions which range from extreme violence and despair to selfless heroism. This lecture will examine the central periods in Goya's evolution, focusing on and discussing in detail some of his masterpieces.

Sergio Romero Bueno, has given many talks to the 3Ls Spanish Club and is a tutor in Spanish Language and Culture in the Centre for Lifelong Learning.
