Literature
Consider how Scottish literature and history interact by examining five classic novels written between the late 18th and early 20th centuries. Debate their contemporary relevance and their place in the Scottish literary tradition.
This class is part of the 'CLL Live and Online' programme. The books the group will discuss are Henry Mackenzie, ‘The Man of Feeling’; Walter Scott, ‘Redgauntlet’; James Hogg, ‘Confessions of a Justified Sinner’; James Galt, ‘The Annals of the Parish’; George Douglas Brown, ‘The House with the Green Shutters’. Each book (acquired independently) needs to be read in advance of the online session. Students are responsible for purchasing their own materials.
These classes are aimed at those aged 50 and over.
