D222: Women in the Shadows of History

Modern History

Explore the lives of women who played a significant role in history but who never got top billing. Some you may have heard of, but others may be unknown. Rest assured, they are all worth knowing! Find out about Lady Jane Grey (Nine Days Queen), Mary Somerville (Queen of Science), Mary Seacole (Jamaican nurse in the Crimea), Mary Livingstone (explorer’s wife) and Emily Hobhouse (supporter of Boer women and children in British concentration camps). Learn through illustrated lectures, drawing upon the writings of these inspirational people.
