D226: French Cinema (10 weeks)

French

Vous aimez le cinéma français? Vous voulez pratiquer votre français? Over ten weekly meetings, we will watch and discuss 5 different French films of various genres. Week 1 will be a film screening, and Week 2 will be dedicated to a follow up discussion and analysis of the film in French. The classes will continue in this way thereafter, alternating between a film screening and a group meeting. This class will give you the opportunity to enjoy watching some of the most popular and successful French films of this century, as well as learning about some of the social and historical aspects which influenced them and will also allow you to practise speaking in French in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There will be small group or paired discussions in French. You will have the necessary skills if you have completed 'French 2', or equivalent.

The films are: Intouchables (2011, Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano), Deux jours une nuit (2014, Luc Dardenne, Jean Pierre Dardenne), La Rafle (2010, Roselyne Bosch), Bienvenue Chez les Ch'tis (2008, Dany Boon) and Les Misérables (2019, Ladj Li).  Films will be screened in the Centre on 12 & 26 Jan, 9 & 23 Feb and 9 March. Film discussion meetings will take place in the Centre on 19 Jan, 2 & 16 Feb and 2 & 16 March.
