Civil Engineer Thomas Telford built a vast array of roads, bridges, canals, docks, harbours, aqueducts, churches and manses. Steamship pioneer Henry Bell started the first commercial steamship service in Europe, between Glasgow, Greenock and Helensburgh. No longer would water transport have to rely on the wind and oars.
