S760: Constance Markievicz: The Rebel Countess

History

Learn about the fascinating life and times of Constance Gore-Booth – born into the Anglo-Irish elite. After studying art in London and Paris she married Count Markievicz and settled in Dublin. There she became involved in social concerns and fought in the Easter Rising. While in prison she became the first woman elected to Westminster, although did not take her seat. On her release she served as a Minister in the Dáil and later supported the Republican cause in the Civil War and helped to found Fianna Fáil. This class is presentation-based.
