D242: Prince Charles Edward Stuart aka Bonnie Prince Charlie (1720-1788)

Modern History

One of the most romanticised figures from Scottish history.  A royal figure treated harshly by events, only trying to rightfully retain the British throne for the Stuart family?  Was it really that simple?  For most Scots, the story of the prince finishes after Culloden, when he escaped to France. However, he then lived for over forty-one eventful years.  This included unsuccessful attempts to raise support for another attempt at the British throne, having his only heir with a Scottish woman, and a slide into alcoholism and abuse of women.  But finally, a reconciliation with his daughter.   Lecture style class with question and answer time.
