Other Language Opportunities, Spanish
¿Te gusta el cine español? ¿Quieres practicar tu español ? Over six weekly meetings we will watch and discuss 3 different Spanish films of various genres. Week 1 will be a film screening, and Week 2 will be dedicated to a follow up discussion and analysis of the film in Spanish. The classes will continue in this way thereafter, alternating between a film screening and a group meeting. This class will give you the opportunity to enjoy watching some popular Spanish films, as well as learning about some of the social and historical aspects which influenced them, and will also allow you to practise speaking in Spanish in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There will be small group or paired discussions in Spanish and English. You will have the necessary skills if you have completed 'Spanish 2', or equivalent.
Questions will be provided in advance of the class to give students time for preparation. The class will then be presented as a short introductory talk in Spanish about the film, touching on some of the historical or social elements which influenced it, followed by group or paired discussion of the questions. The films are ‘Cien metros’ (2016, Marcel Barrena), 'Los diarios de motocicleta' (Walter Salles, 2004) and 'La lengua de las mariposas' (1999, José Luis Cuerda). Films will be screened on campus in weeks 1, 3 and 5 and discussion meetings will be held in weeks 2, 4 and 6. Please note all films will have English subtitles.
These classes are aimed at those aged 50 and over.
