E135: Internment in the Isle of Man in World War 2 - CL

Carnegie Library, **NEW for Academic Year 2024-2025**, History

Who were the “enemy aliens” whom the British Government interned in the Isle of Man in World War 2?  What threat were they thought to pose? Find out why men, women and children were interned and the conditions in which they were detained.  In this lecture we shall tell their stories and see how they spent their time in work and leisure activities.  We shall follow some of the detainees after the war ended and see how quickly the Isle of Man’s economy regenerated in the post-war era.  Lecture style with question and answer time.

An adult learning class from one of CLL’s satellite facilities, the Carnegie Library in Ayr.
