D704: East Meets West Art Class! The Silk Roads (Part 2)

Other Creative Arts, **NEW for Academic Year 2024-2025**

This class is inspired by the tutor's travel to China in 2024 and her cultural heritage. All themes and ideas are based on her research and her ongoing interest in East meets West. For this year’s class she will be drawing inspirations from the books: The Silk Roads by Peter Frankopan, and The Golden Road by Willian Dalrymple. In this practical art and art appreciation class, students will be examining cave paintings in India and China, silk paintings of Japan and China, statues and mosaic murals from the roman empire inspired by Indian subjects, and textile art from the Persian empire. Tutor will provide art demonstrations and short seminars to support the themes. By the end of the week, you will develop art appreciation skills, deepening your understanding of cross-cultural influences between the East and the West. All levels of abilities are welcome.

Please note this class is held over 4 consecutive days, Tuesday 19 August, Wednesday 20 August, Thursday 21 August and Friday 22 August, 10.00-16.00 with an hour break for lunch.  The fee includes the cost of some materials. Students are responsible for purchasing their own paintbrushes and paper.
