D750: Italian Cinema: A Journey from History to Humour

**NEW for Academic Year 2024-2025**, Italian, Other Language Opportunities

Over four weekly meetings we will watch and discuss two famous and successful Italian films. Film 1: “C’eravamo tanto amati”, a dramatic story which runs over 30 years of modern Italian history, from 1945 to 1974.  Film 2: “Pane e tulipani”, a comedy set between Apulia and Venice.  In this first and third class screenings, there will be a brief introduction to the film before watching it as a group.  During the second and fourth class sessions, students will discuss the film, analysing aspects of the story focussing on meaningful scenes. Both films will be shown in Italian with English subtitles. The class will be conducted mainly in Italian.  You will have the necessary skills if you have completed 'Italian 2', or equivalent.
