Law, Carnegie Library, **NEW for Academic Year 2025-2026**
In this interactive session, explore how key civil and criminal cases over the past century have influenced the development of legal principles in Scotland. The discussion will range across the country and across various legal themes including the former “not proven” verdict and corroboration. Examine landmark decisions involving notorious criminals such as Manuel, Fraser and Sinclair, as well as the global significance of the Lockerbie bombing. We will also revisit civil classics such as the famous Paisley “snail in the ginger beer” case and the Oban folly. Each case will reveal how Scots law has evolved through the courts, demonstrating the law in action and its continuing relevance today.
