D748: Practical Genealogy

Genealogy on campus/satellite, **NEW for Academic Year 2025-2026**

Aimed at beginner and intermediate learners, this class will cover practical methods of carrying out genealogical research, techniques for organising information gathered, and resources to draw on when faced with unfamiliar types of record or information. Lecture style with discussion and question and answer time and some written exercises to consolidate learning.

It would be essential for you to know at least your parents’ identities; those seeking to trace adoptive or unknown parents would not be able to immediately apply the skills in the course. Home (or public library) internet access and knowledge of how to navigate to internet sites would also be necessary, to follow up on subjects and research methods.

10.00-15.00 (with an hour for lunch).
