Drawing & Painting, **NEW for Academic Year 2025-2026**
Explore Glasgow through drawing in this relaxed and creative location-based sketching class. Working quickly from life in a sketchbook, we’ll observe the city around us — from architecture and interiors to people, streets and museum spaces. These sessions are perfect for anyone who wants to loosen up their drawing style, gain confidence sketching on location, and learn to capture atmosphere and movement in a spontaneous way. We’ll experiment with techniques such as blind drawing, continuous line drawing, and drawing with your non-dominant hand to encourage observation, freedom and expressive mark-making. Locations will include Glasgow city centre and West End sites such as Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis, Buchanan Street steps, the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA), Kelvingrove Art Gallery, the Riverside Transport Museum and the Govan Stones. These will be confirmed prior to the first class meeting. Each location offers different drawing opportunities such as city streets and architecture, interior gallery and museum sketching, drawing people in public spaces and copying from paintings and artworks in galleries. The class is suitable for complete beginners as well as anyone wanting to develop a more confident and expressive sketchbook practice. No previous drawing experience is needed — just curiosity, enthusiasm and a sketchbook.
10.00-16.00 with an hour for lunch.
These classes are aimed at those aged 50 and over.
