Employability and Personal Development
This 8-week course is for those who wish to learn about active listening and how it can help us listen and respond more effectively. The skills gained will be helpful in almost any group work environment and in personal and/or work communication. It will draw upon some of the fundamentals of counselling theory and practical skills practised by being a listener with a colleague in real-life scenarios. As such, it is also a valuable introduction to this field of study. This 8-week course aims to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the difference between formal counselling and using a counselling skills approach.
2. Highlight knowledge of the necessary qualities of an effective helping relationship.
3. Identify the attending and responding skills used in skills practices.
4. Evidence an understanding of the importance of self-awareness in effective listeners.
5. Show knowledge of how to handle difficult conversations.
6. Evaluate your enhanced listening skills.
7. Establish a plan for the future use of your enhanced listening skills.
