M117: Criminal Exploitation of Children

Children and Young People's Centre for Justice

This instance of learning was developed in collaboration with Action for Children (AfC) and CYCJ to raise awareness and understanding of the Criminal Exploitation of Children. Tens of thousands of children across the UK risk being trapped in Criminal Exploitation – their lives shattered, and futures stolen. Professionals responding to children who are at risk of exploitation or are being exploited will benefit from this half day of learning which gives a clearer understanding of roles and responsibilities in protecting young people they work with.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Explain and Identify definitions of Criminal Exploitation
  • Understand and recognise physical, emotional and community indicators of the Criminal Exploitation of children
  • Examine and interpret the risks associated with the criminal exploitation of children
  • Recognise the impact exploitation has on child victims
  • Understand pathways to exploitation for children
  • Understand and utilise appropriate language when responding to the criminal exploitation of children
  • Interpret the criminal exploitation of children as a child protection concern
  • Increase confidence in responding to Criminal Exploitation
  • Identify ways to respond to the Criminal Exploitation of children – approaches in practice
  • Identify ways to respond to the criminal exploitation of children - responsibilities of a multi-agency partnership.

This fully online course can be undertaken at the flexible pace of the learner when suitable, taking approximately 4 hours.

This e-learning is suitable for those who respond to the needs of children currently in, or on the cusp of being involved in conflict with the law.
