D862: Ancient Near Eastern Literature in Translation (online via Zoom)

History

This class will introduce you to the wider Ancient Near Eastern world through case study texts from Ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian literature. Use these primary sources (in translation) as evidence for reconstructing life in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, and as a basis for exploring cultural differences. Texts include The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Dialogue of a Man and his Ba, The Dialogue of Pessimism, and The Tale of Sinuhe. No prior knowledge required. Lecture style with question and answer time.
