D741: Bobby Kennedy: The President America Never Had

History

Often overshadowed by his more famous and charismatic brother, Bobby Kennedy's rise to become a liberal icon, and potential presidential candidate, is in many ways more remarkable than that of JFK. At one time described by his own father as the 'runt of the litter', Bobby, unlike his older brother, was shy and withdrawn. He also struggled in educational terms in his early years. Nothing came easily to him. As he matured, he became a late developer, and it was his capacity for hard work and his determination that defined his character and drove him forward. Examine Bobby Kennedy's personal growth and his remarkable political career that ended suddenly and tragically with his assassination in 1968. Learn through lectures, class discussion and other primary sources.
